rainbow run faq
To create a more streamlined registration process before the Rainbow Run, we are encouraging participants to download and sign the following disclaimer and to bring it with them on the day to hand in at registration, thank you. Please select your event:
what is in the paint?
The Rainbow Run powder paint is non-toxic, 100% safe and biodegradable. It is technically edible, although we do not advise that you eat it as it’s not very tasty! If you have a skin allergy or respiratory condition we would recommend that you don’t take part or that you consult your doctor for advice.
do I have to run the route or can I walk?
You don’t have to run! This is a fun event, so you can run, hop, skip or jump if you wish. It is not a race, we just want you to have as much fun as possible.
We advise you to wear ear plugs and sunglasses, particularly under 16’s to avoid getting paint in your eyes and ears. Both items will be available on the day too.
can i add people to my team?
All members must be registered together when creating a team, unfortunately we cannot add additional members to your team afterwards. The additional member will need to register as an ‘individual’ through the website, however you are still welcome to run together on the day and fundraise together as one ‘team’.
You will receive your actual race number to wear on the day in the post, a few weeks before the event date. You need to bring your Race Number with you on the day in order to sign in at registration.
is the rainbow run timed?
This is not a timed event , we want you to make the most of the experience and enjoy yourself. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.
what happens with the paint during the event?
The paint will only be thrown in our designated Rainbow stations by trained Rainbow Throwers. The paint will be aimed onto the body of the runners rather than the face to reduce the amount of paint getting into the mouth, nose and eyes. You will inevitably get some paint on your head/face, but runners who are not so keen to be in the direct firing line of the Rainbow Throwers are recommended to stick to the inside of the running lane to receive the least amount of paint and the outside lanes for maximum explosions of the rainbow!
do the ‘powder paint zones’ affect runner vision? or breathing?
As the powder paint is non-toxic, it is 100% safe and natural. Please do try to avoid getting it into your eyes, our official paint throwers make sure to aim low as you pass by. All participants are advised to wear glasses or goggles as extra eye protection and a bandana to cover your mouth, but this is not essential.
will the paint harm the environment?
The powder paint is 100% natural and water soluble. It will not cause any damage to the environment. After the event, there will be a clean-up team present to remove the paint on the ground.
Disabled access will be available at the event; however, we ask that you contact us to let us know if you require disabled access, so that we can talk you through any specific details and make any appropriate provision. Please contact us to let us know if you require disabled access, so that we can talk you through any specific details and try and make any appropriate provision. email@example.com.
after the run
We’ll have a clean-up team in place to help remove the powder paint left on the ground after the event. The powder paint we are using is 100% skin and eco-friendly.

what should I wear and will it get ruined?
Come along wearing a shiny white t-shirt (and running gear you don’t mind getting messy) or perhaps wear something more unusual like a wedding dress, tutu or fancy dress! So long as it’s white so you can see the multi-colours in all their splendour at the end. Well-fitting trainers are recommended but please don’t wear your expensive ones as they will end up every colour of the Rainbow. The coloured pigment should wash out of most fabrics but please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting stained. After testing the paint, we know that white is never white again after being covered. The paint is water soluble so you can wash the clothes as normal, but avoid washing it with nice clothes. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. Please be sensible with what you choose to wear as the route does take place on the beach and most importantly wear comfortable walking shoes.
Remember you can get your official rainbow run merchandise before the event here. We have everything from Tŷ Hafan sunglasses and official t-shirts to fantastic rainbow wigs and colourful tutus! You can also save money and get our official rainbow run kit which has a fabulous selection of merchandise to kit you out for the run! 100% of the profits from your shopping go directly to Tŷ Hafan.
will I be able to get clean again after the run?
We recommend that you leave a towel in your car to cover your seat or spare clothes to put on top of your running gear to ensure you get as little paint as possible on your seat. Tŷ Hafan cannot be held responsible for any damage or paint getting on participants vehicles, public transport or private property.
will you have changing rooms or storage?
There will be no facilities of this nature at the event so please arrive with limited personal belongings or leave them with friends/family who are coming to watch. Tŷ Hafan cannot accept responsibility for any belongings left unattended.
are cameras and phones safe to have in the rainbow stations?
Tŷ Hafan will have photographers taking photos throughout on the day and filming the colour craziness. If you want to get shots right in the midst of the action we recommend covering cameras/phones with plastic wrap or bringing a disposable camera.
can spectators come along to the rainbow run?
Absolutely! Spectators are very welcome. We encourage families and supporters to come along and watch the fun. We cannot however guarantee that spectators will stay clean, therefore we do advise that they keep a good distance from the Rainbow Stations as we cannot accept responsibility for them accidently being showered in powder paint.
If I can’t take part now, can i give my place to a friend?
Unfortunately, your place is non-transferable and non-refundable.
can children take part?
Due to the nature of the event, we have decided that children must be over 5 years old to take part and any families must have a 1:2 adult to child ratio as a safety precaution. However we would welcome all families as spectators.
can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately dogs cannot participate in this event.
